Shower Door Glass Repair or Replace?
If the glass remains unbroken and the issue lies with various hinges, rollers or seals, repair will almost certainly be cheaper and quicker than a replacement. We will always advise someone to repair the door if that is an option. However, total door replacement is advisable when the glass is broken all the way through, the door is old, and does not fit into a remodeled bathroom, or when one is switching to a frameless door for aesthetic reasons.
Framed, Semi-Frameless, or Frameless?
Framed doors make use of thinner glass of approximately 3/16 to 1/4 inch which is secured around its four sides by the support of a metal frame. Semi-frameless doors provide a frame for only the outer edges although they leave the seam between the two panels open to separate the cost from appearance. Frameless doors make use of thicker tempered glass which varies from 3/8 to half an inch thickness with a lesser amount of hardware hence yielding an aesthetically pleasing appearance.
